'Just an Ordinary Life'
Germany, 2006, 72mins; Director: Pamela Meyer-Arndt

On a poetic journey back in time, this film reveals what it felt like to live in the former East Germany, through the eyes of three photographers - Sibylle Bergemann, Helga Paris and Gundula Schulze Eldowy. It provides a fascinating insight into their work and reveals an unusually tender and feminine view of an exceptionally beautiful but grey reality. With an introduction by Dr. Deborah Lewer, Head of History of Art at Glasgow University.

'Take a Picture'
Germany, 2011, 52mins; Director: Sabine Michel
Cooperation with ZDF and Arte and the DEFA Foundation.

Sibylle Bergemann, who died in November 2010 at the age of 69 years, is one of the outstanding German photographers of the GDR, particularly in the field of fashion and portrait photography. For her melancholic-cheerful film, the director Sabine Michel accompanied the photographer to Venice, offering a rare glimpse into the workings of this apparently shy woman. The film covers a range of her practice and is a unique and touching contemporary portrait of this intense yet tender photographer.
