The initial purpose of the gallery was to promote the works of Margaret Watkins, the Canadian-born photographer who lived in total obscurity for forty years in Westbourne Gardens, Hyndland, until her death in 1969.
For many years, gallery owner Joe Mulholland cried in the (Scottish) wilderness telling of her wonderful achievements. Exhibitions were mounted in some of the most prestigious galleries throughout the United States - but no official recognition in her adopted country. The Hidden Lane Gallery has filled this gap with shows of her classic work, her visits to Paris, Leningrad, Moscow, London and of course, Glasgow.
November 2016 will see a great general exhibition at The Hidden Lane Gallery, covering all aspects of her work, with a “taster” of her visit to Germany.
