Sun-pictures and beyond: Scotland and the Photographically-Illustrated Book 1845-1900

The exhibition will showcase copies of photographically-illustrated books published during the 19th century held in the National Library’s collections. Starting with William Henry Fox Talbot's Sun Pictures in Scotland in 1845, the exhibition will show examples of books on Scottish literature and art, Scottish architecture, guide books on Scotland and the works of Scottish photographers based overseas. The photographers represented will include Thomas Annan, William Notman and John Thomson. The exhibition will also include works published by the studios of George Washington Wilson and Valentine & Sons of Dundee.
