Andrea Gjestvang is an award winning Norwegian photographer. For several years she has concentrated on the north. Her series “One Day In History” gained international recognition for its dignified portraits of survivors of the Anders Brevik massacre in 2011. FLOW will be premiering her work on the Faroes, exploring the population decline among women. Many women see no future in the small communities and leave the island nation to study in cities such as Copenhagen, Oslo and London, more than half of them never return. Only 14 countries in the world have a greater imbalance in gender proportion than the Faroe Islands.
Programmed as part of FLOW Photofest 2017.
