This exhibition offers an insight into the complex and colourful world of ‘Lolitas’ in Scotland.
A Lolita could be best described as an individual who follows the Japanese subculture of wearing western inspired Victorian and Rocco style Japanese fashion. The movement began in Japan during the 1970’s. This subculture has dominated Japan for many years, but it has only been in the last decade that it has spread to many other countries in the world, including Scotland. Although the world of the Lolita is a fairly unknown and secretive subculture, this fashion has become a growing trend among young women. Louise Kennedy's exhibition is an exploration of Scottish women who have embraced this lifestyle
